Home Stretch

Today is the day! It is the final day of March, which also means it is the final day of my month as a vegan. What have I learned from this?
  • to question food before you shove it in your mouth.
  • to read ingredients (is this something we should be doing anyway?)
  • to think ahead and plan meals.
  • I haven't really missed meat that much; I keep saying that if I could eat cheese and eggs this would be a piece of cake ... well, maybe not cake.
  • self control ... I have been tempted plenty of times with forbidden foods ... but with a little bit of will power, and some whining I have been able to not succumb to temptation.

Sing It, Boy(s on American Idol)

Last week, I guessed correctly on 3 of the 4 people who got the boot. This week I'd be surprised if I go 2 for 4. But I guess that's what makes American Idol fresh. Tonight I was most entertained by Michael & Todrick (surprisingly). ... and I just just don't get Tim & Aaron I'm really not impressed with either of them ... but I won't be surprised if they make it to the Top 12.
  1. Michael Lynche
  2. Casey James
  3. Lee Dewyze
  4. Alex Lambert
  5. Todrick Hall
  6. Andrew Garcia ... really starting to show that he may be a one dimensional artist
  7. Tim Urban
  8. Aaron Kelly

T vs. Metro

Remember I went to Boston a few weeks ago? Well, while there I rode the T ... you know, Boston's version of the Metro. Let's do a lil' compare and contrast (mainly contrast):
  • you can move from train-car to train-car ... anyone, not just employees, and there are no doors ... the train is like a giant caterpillar.
  • no warning lights on the train platforms.
  • food & drink are allowed on the trains.
  • at some stops/ stations there are snack shops right next to the tracks.
  • ... possibly as a result, the trains were much dirtier than those in DC
  • ... but there were also signs on the trains that said "your tax dollars pay to clean this train so please throw away your trash".
  • am I the only one who finds that ironic?
  • the stations are ugly and have no character.
  • the interiors of the cars themselves are ugly ... much worse than DC (believe it or not) the seats & floors totally clash, and the seats are ugly and uncomfortable.
  • everything about the T was less accessible for people with disabilities than the Metro:
  • there was no clearly marked priority seating on the trains,
  • the stations were not clearly marked as to where elevators were located,
  • the cars themselves were less accessible to get on and off the trains.
  • I thought the passengers were more rude than those in DC; well maybe not more rude, but dumber ... there is no etiquette for getting on/ off the trains i.e. people on the platform don't wait at all for people to exit before bombarding the train.
  • on escalators they stand on the left ... and right.
  • you have to swipe your card to get into the station (like the Metro), but not to leave
  • regardless of your destination, all rides cost the same on the T ... what a ripoff, or bargain.
  • the equivalent of the SmartTrip cards are free!
  • lastly, maybe I am biased but I like Metro's website more than the T's.

Sing It, Girl(s on American Idol)

So I must confess that had I not watched the show tonight, my rankings of the ladies would be fairly identical to this one. I believe Crystal, Siobhan, and Lilly have command of the competition; Didi, Lacey, and Katie's time has expired and 2 of the 3 should go on Thursday; and Paige and Katelyn are somewhere in between. However, Thursday may be interesting since the judges totally bashed Paige and (for some reason) enjoyed Didi and Lacey. Nonetheless, here is how I think they stacked up tonight:
  1. Siobhan Magnus
  2. Crystal Bowersox
  3. Lilly Scott
  4. Katelyn Epperly
  5. Paige Miles
  6. Didi Benami
  7. Lacey Brown
  8. Katie Stevens

Boston, Yum

This past weekend I jetted up to Boston to visit with good friends. I did a similar trip last spring, and once again had a wonderful time (despite the weather, ugh). I just also happen to hang out with a bunch of foodies ... typically I could care less about food ... but, I was thoroughly impressed with all of the eateries and bars that we passed through, including:
