Lions, and Tigers, and Books?

Two of my favorite things in the world involve saving money and books.  Library book sales provide a venue to knock two birds out with one stone.

Liz v. School Bus

  • I was walking home yesterday afternoon.
  • Everything was normal.
  • And then a school bus stopped and expelled 7 kids in my path.
  • ... by 'in my path' I mean, I then found myself amongst a heard of elementary schoolers.
  • these were my next thoughts:
    • no kids, I am not a really tall kid, nor am I a predator.
    • Did you think my "friendly 'hello' smile" looked insincere?
    • --- that's because it was.
    • don't be fooled by my flashy new kicks ... I actually loathe anything considered active.
    • also, I never played softball at JMU, so just ignore my shirt, too.
    • ... but don't envision me without a shirt ... that's creepy, and illegal.
    • I can't believe we're all walking in the same direction.
    • the grimace on my face?
    • --- I just realized I like the pair of Vans that a 4th grader is wearing.
    • I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have anything in common with 4th graders.
    • And lastly, typically I don't walk like a total moron; it just so happened that your bus stopped while I was attempting to master the walk/ gait of "Smoooth Rick"
    • ... and failing miserably.

When the World Ends

There are rumors that the world is ending today.  I started thinking about things that I would miss if the world really did cease to exist today:

  • Coke Slurpees!
  • Sharpie markers!
  • the beach!
  • Parks & Recreation!
  • bike rides!
  • eggplant parmesan!
  • my iPod!
  • my MacBook!
  • my iPad 2!
    • the fact that I didn't get an iPad 2!
    • ... or win the lottery!
    • ... or max out my credit cards before the apocalypse!
  • the library!
  • bookstores!
  • African violets!
  • Snuggies!
  • kittens!
  • Bonsai Blast!
  • Top Chef!
  • Twitter!
  • Jeopardy!
  • Urban Outfitters!
  • my ever growing stack of 'to-read' books!
  • Starbucks!
  • Chipotle!
  • crushed ice!
  • Miller High Life!
  • Crown Royal!

Confessions

  • I hated on the royal wedding a lot prior to last weekend ... but when it happened, I was totally mesmerized by it.
  • ... and I was in love with both Kate and Pippa's dresses.
  • As much as I love books, it makes me uncomfortable when people ask me for recommendations of what to read.
  • I have had my current library card since the 7th grade when they upgraded from paper cards to laminated cards ... I signed my name on the back in purple ink ... those were the days.
  • I watch Glee ... and generally enjoy it.
  • I keep catching American Idol ... and I can't stand it. The judging is horrible as well as the contestants ... all this 'best season' talk is total garbage.
  • Lady Gaga's new tune, Judas, is legit.
  • warm weather warms my soul
  • time goes by way too fast
  • life would be a lot easier if I had a money tree

One time I was driving, and then I was cut off ...

I was driving yesterday, minding my own business, when all of a sudden this maniac driver cut me off. After slamming on my breaks, and growling ... yes literally, I began to access the car that was now in front of me.  As I mentally compiled a list of observations ... it dawned on me - I wasn't cut off by a maniac ... I was cut off by a douche bag.

Evidence:

  • Mazda
  • hatchback
  • 4 door
  • dark purple
  • lowered
  • rims
  • tinted windows
  • [who does this chump think he is, Fast & the Furious?]
  • Washington state plates
  • on back window:
  • - Philadelphia Eagles sticker on one side
  • - Apple sticker on the other

... case closed.

Books Currently Flying in a Holding Pattern

To coincide with my griping from the other day, I have amassed a number of books that I have started to read, and then stalled.  Additionally, two of them are from the library and currently overdue ... I thought that if I am accumulating fines, I would be motivated to finish them.

... I am currently disproving aforementioned theory.

The books, cracked, but not concluded, include:

... and it is not even necessarily that I dislike what I am reading.  Simply put, I am stuck.  Am I the only one this happens to? How does one remedy this predicament?
